Using Transcription
Turn your team's conversations into searchable, indexed text with AI-powered speech-to-text. Live transcription in 30+ languages with automatic language detection.
How Transcription Works
When enabled on a channel, whoot.'s AI engine converts spoken audio to text in real time — no post-processing delay. The transcription engine:
- Captures the audio stream from the channel
- Automatically detects the language being spoken
- Converts speech to text with speaker identification
- Generates AI summaries, action items, and sentiment analysis automatically
Enabling Transcription
- Navigate to your dashboard
- Click the settings icon on the channel
- Toggle Transcription to enabled
- Save your changes
Transcription is included in every whoot. plan with a pooled allowance of 500 minutes per user per month. See Transcription for full details.
Supported Languages
whoot. supports automatic transcription in 30+ languages, including:
Language detection is automatic — you don't need to select a language. The AI engine identifies the language being spoken and transcribes accordingly. Multi-language conversations are handled seamlessly.
Viewing Transcripts
Transcripts are available in two places:
- Live — Real-time text appears in the channel as people speak
- Session Replay — Synced transcript overlay when replaying recordings
AI-Powered Features
whoot. goes beyond raw speech-to-text. Each transcription includes:
- Summaries — AI-generated summary of the conversation highlights
- Action items — Automatically extracted tasks and follow-ups
- Sentiment analysis — Overall tone and sentiment of the discussion
- Speaker identification — Each line attributed to the correct speaker
- Keyword search — Full-text search across all transcripts in your workspace
Searching Transcripts
Use the search function in your dashboard to find specific moments across all recorded and transcribed conversations:
- Open the search panel
- Enter keywords, phrases, or speaker names
- Results show the matching transcript segment with timestamp
- Click a result to jump directly to that moment in the session replay
Usage & Allowance
Transcription usage draws from your team's pooled allowance (500 min/user/month). Key points:
- Only active speech is counted — silence is not metered
- Usage is tracked in real time and visible in your billing dashboard
- Email alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% keep you informed
- Overage is billed at £0.01/min, or can be disabled by an administrator
Best Practices
- Combine with recording — Get both audio replay and searchable text
- Enable on standup channels — Absent team members can read the summary and action items instead of watching a replay
- Use for meeting minutes — AI summaries replace the need for a dedicated note-taker
- Monitor usage — Review your transcription minutes in the billing dashboard to optimise costs
